Huntington Beach & Long Beach

SCROLL DOWN

Brian and I drove separately to surf Huntington Beach at 17th Street. I passed: headache & shoulder pain. Need to visit the chiropractor. Try again on Sunday by myself in Rosarito Beach, Baja. Make sure and stop by the Rock & Roll Taco, for old times sake. I haven't surfed in about 10 years. And I've never been very good to begin with. Next zero-budget Baja trips: San Felipé & San Quentin/south to El Rosario --- just before entering the Vizcaino Desert with it's unique flora and the Cataviña boulder fieldVisit a mission or two, get another surfing lesson, charter a panga for a few hours of fishing, maybe see if there's still snow on 10,000-foot Picacho del Diablo in the Parque Nacional Sierra San Pedro Mártir. Eat at taco stands. Sleep in the car. These are trips-on-the-cheap. Pictures, video and history. I eat this stuff up. None of the tourist crap for me. I need fresh pictures of the missions for my featured Google Earth masterpiece.

Arrived in Huntington Beach at 7:30am. Brian surfed about an hour until after 8:30. I enjoyed sitting on the sand during that time and being in my head. It's good to be back. Marine layer starting to break up. Perfect temperature & breeze. We chatted.   Pan-around video jul23_huntington_beach_brian.jpg (28675 bytes)

After the beach and working for Warren's car wash for several hours, I headed over to my new chiropractor (third visit) in Long Beach. I had to make what I think is the last and final reconnection to my past --- the "House that Andrew Built" --- formerly the Sunset Bay Towers, now called the Ocean Club on Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach.

Even The "A" Team showed up for a few days. Pictures need to be scanned and uploaded.

It was 1984. I was the field engineer. Age 25. That's when I learned to be fearful of heights.
