Now I'm REALLY a proud papa! Hundreds of tiny, tiny praying mantis emerged this morning. It was fleeting. By 10am they had walk, jumped or flown all over the vegetation looking for a hungry morsel. They're carnivores. Now I have to deal with snails that are chewing on our vegetable and flower leaves. No store carries the kind that eat other snails (more carnivores) and I don't want to use bait or poisons with young life around. Especially if I go buy some more lady bugs. So for now I'm picking them off one at a time and dropping each one into a jar of vinegar. Works like a charm. Slow and tedious --- but also free and effective. |
