Driving around taking care of errands, I decide to take a short side trip along a tiny county "levee" road on the Lummi Indian Reservation --- this place is a wildlife paradise! More specifically, birds of all types, birds of prey, sea-faring, generic crows and blue birds. These large open expanses of land / water / wetlands are preserved as open space (flood plain) by Whatcom County and actually form a part of the Pacific Flyway that is so important to bird migration in North America. |
Also visible: Canada
Geese, endangered swans, eagles , hawks, falcons, hummingbirds, terns,
seagulls and more. I'm not even a "bird type" and I'm amazed by
the variety of the wildlife and beauty of God's majesty in this
"natural cathedral." Majestic Mount Baker is always visible and
omnipresent in the eastern background.
And, of course, human waste. |
